Dr. Sutker is Board certified in general surgery from the American Board of Surgery and has obtained additional certification by the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Dr. Sutker treats patients throughout North Texas, with offices located at Medical City Dallas Hospital and Medical City McKinney Hospital. His practice, Michael Sutker, MD, PA, is affiliated with the Surgical Consultants of Dallas. At Medical City Dallas Hospital, he is Section Chief of General Surgery, Medical Director of Robotic Surgery, and the Chair of the Advanced Clinical Advisory Board. He is also a member of the General Surgery Performance Improvement, Trauma Performance Improvement, and the Professional Practice Evaluation Committee.
Dr. Sutker specializes in minimally invasive surgery, including robotic-assisted laparoscopy. He is skilled and specialty trained in the surgical treatment of obesity, acid reflux, esophageal motility disorders, and paraoesophageal hernias.
He is also skilled in the repair of abdominal wall defects, including inguinal, umbilical, ventral, and incisional hernias. According to Surgical Consultants of Dallas, Dr. Sutker also enjoys “managing emergency surgical situations including gallbladder disease, appendicitis, and diverticulitis.”
Dr. Sutker’s practice is accredited as a Comprehensive Center for Bariatric Surgery under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). To earn this designation, Dr. Sutker and Medical City Dallas met certain training requirements and protocols for care, ensuring their ability to fully support patients living with obesity.
With a passion for medicine, Dr. Sutker’s medical journey began when he received his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2008. He then completed a general surgical internship, and residency training followed at the same teaching venue consecutively. Dr. Sutker is also fellowship trained in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at University of California San Francisco School of Medicine.
To keep abreast of the latest developments in his field, Dr. Sutker holds professional memberships with the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Obesity Medicine Association, the Texas Medical Association, and the Dallas County Medical Society.
