Frederic Levesque of Taos Calls for More Thoughtful Innovation in Cybersecurity
Frederic Levesque, Head of Product for Emerging Business and Partnerships at AURA, is speaking out about the growing need for more thoughtful innovation in cybersecurity and digital product development.
As cyber threats continue to rise globally, Levesque is encouraging professionals and everyday users alike to approach technology with greater awareness, responsibility, and long-term thinking.
“A big idea is only valuable if it’s built with care,” Levesque said. “We’re moving fast as an industry. But speed without intention can create real risks.”
The Growing Urgency Around Digital Security
Cybersecurity is no longer a niche issue. It affects individuals, families, and businesses every day.
According to industry reports, global cybercrime costs are projected to reach trillions of dollars annually in the coming years. At the same time, the cybersecurity workforce gap remains significant, with millions of unfilled roles worldwide. As more services move online, exposure to digital threats continues to expand.
Levesque believes that innovation must keep pace — but in a responsible way.
“Product teams are building tools that impact millions of people,” he said. “That comes with responsibility. We have to ask better questions before we ship anything.”
As a product leader focused on emerging business and partnerships, Levesque works at the intersection of strategy, technology, and collaboration. His role requires turning early-stage ideas into scalable solutions.
“You’re translating vision into real systems,” he explained. “If you don’t think long term, the cracks show later.”
Advocating for Intentional Product Building
Levesque is raising awareness around what he calls “intentional building.” That means slowing down enough to ensure products are secure, user-focused, and aligned with long-term impact.
In a field where speed is often rewarded, he believes clarity and discipline matter more.
“A big idea is just the starting point,” he said. “The real work is in the details.”
He draws parallels between product development and his personal hobbies, including woodworking.
“You measure carefully. You adjust. You respect the craft,” he said. “Technology should be built the same way.”
Levesque also points to the importance of cross-team collaboration. Cybersecurity is not only a technical issue. It involves communication, trust, and alignment across organizations.
“No one wins alone,” he said, referencing lessons from his early years playing hockey in Montreal. “The same is true in cybersecurity. It’s a team effort.”
What Individuals Can Do
Levesque emphasizes that awareness does not stop with tech professionals. Individuals also play a role in creating a safer digital environment.
“People don’t have to work in cybersecurity to care about digital safety,” he said. “Start by being curious. Ask how your data is handled. Pay attention to the tools you use.”
He encourages individuals to:
-
Stay informed about digital security basics
-
Be mindful of the platforms and services they trust
-
Support organizations that prioritize responsible technology
-
Continue learning about how technology shapes daily life
“Impact doesn’t have to be loud,” Levesque said. “It just has to be consistent.”
A Broader View of Responsibility
Beyond his professional work, Levesque remains active in his Taos community. He supports Amigos Bravos, an organization dedicated to protecting the Rio Grande watershed, and volunteers at the Equine Spirit Sanctuary.
For him, digital responsibility and community responsibility are connected.
“All of it is about building,” he said. “Building products. Building teams. Building communities. If you care about what you build, the results speak for themselves.”
As technology continues to evolve, Levesque hopes more professionals will embrace a mindset that balances innovation with intention.
“We don’t need more noise,” he said. “We need more thoughtful builders.”
