Out With the Old captures a lifetime of reflection, grief, love, and resilience.

DENVER, CO – March 27, 2026 – At 75, Colorado poet and retired educator “Gram” has released her debut poetry collection, Out With the Old, a heartfelt anthology shaped by a lifetime of travel, caregiving, and quietly observed moments.

The collection features poems written over more than six decades, many of which were originally scribbled in notebooks during long flights or tucked away amid family moves. Gram, who grew up in a military family that lived across the globe, never intended to publish her work. That changed following the recent passing of her parents.

“I kept thinking—what good is all this if it never gets shared?” she said. “Some of it is messy, and some of it is raw, but it’s real. It’s my life.”

Out With the Old explores recurring themes of family, grief, aging, and the evolving lens through which we view our past. The tone is intimate—at times politically reflective, at others playfully nostalgic.

What adds deeper resonance to the collection is the family history behind it. Her grandmother learned to fly planes at age 50. Her father flew nearly 300 combat missions in Vietnam. Her mother helped resettle thousands of refugees after the fall of Saigon.

“I come from people who didn’t sit still,” Gram noted. “Maybe that’s why I’ve always been writing—to catch my breath.”

The book includes both early poems—some revisited and revised after decades—and more recent works written during her years as a caregiver. After her mother’s passing, Gram cared for her father through two craniotomies, paralysis, and a brain injury.

“That chapter took a toll,” she admitted. “But it also clarified what matters—grace, and goodbyes.”

Rather than positioning itself as a polished literary work, the collection stands as a deeply personal act of expression.

“It’s not perfect,” she said, “but neither is life.”

The title, Out With the Old, is partly tongue-in-cheek, but it also reflects Gram’s hope that by releasing old memories and creating space for new ones, readers may feel less alone in their own grief, growth, and gratitude.

Out With the Old is widely available in hardcover, paperback, eBook, and audiobook formats through Amazon. Published by Amazon Book Studio, the collection is accessible across major platforms, and the audiobook is fully ADA-compliant for accessibility.
