Empowering Students Beyond Academics: Innovation, Community Impact, and Lifelong Skills Development

At Thrive Academy, education isn’t just a journey; it’s a transformative experience that goes beyond the confines of traditional learning. Located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Thrive Academy was founded in 2011 as a local boarding school by former teacher Sarah Broome. Thrive Academy’s unique part time boarding program was Broome’s solution to a school system that did not protect disadvantaged children. As a beacon of innovation, Thrive is a place where academic opportunities are both endless and protected

Mission Minded Learning

Thrive Academy’s mission goes beyond academic achievement. Their mission is marked by three areas of focus: Thrive Within, Thrive Abroad, and Thrive Next Day. Thrive Within provides programs that ensure students have their needs met and an enriching experience. These programs include swimming lessons, drivers education, and learning other basic life skills. Thrive Abroad gives students exposure outside of Louisiana by providing travel opportunities with staff members and classmates. In 2024, a group of seniors will be traveling to Washington DC! Thrive Next Day prepares students for the days following graduation. They help build connections for future jobs, offer ACT testing, and provide students with professional attire. Success for Thrive is not just measured by the number of students graduating, but by their preparedness for success in the days that follow.

A History of Excellence

Thrive Academy’s success story began in 2012 with a class of 20 sixth graders. In just the first year, the school achieved remarkable academic gains, moving from an incoming School Performance Score (SPS) of 19.6 to an impressive 76.9. This trend continued, with further growth to an 87.5 in the second year, establishing Thrive as one of the highest-performing schools in Baton Rouge. The journey continued with the groundbreaking of a permanent campus in 2015. By August 2016, the first dorm was completed, and students moved in, solidifying the school’s commitment to providing a secure and supportive learning environment. Recognizing Thrive Academy’s impact, the Louisiana Legislature passed HB 887 in 2016, establishing Thrive as a legislatively authorized school. Former Governor John Bel Edwards signed the legislation into act, effective July 1st, 2017.

Residential Life at Thrive

What sets Thrive Academy apart is its commitment to providing students with more than just classrooms and textbooks. Their part-time boarding program allows for students to reside on campus 5 days a week. In this family-like atmosphere, students not only learn academic lessons, but engage in character development through varsity.
