New Jersey Entrepreneur Builds AI Voice Platform After Six-Month Test on Father's Tent Rental Business
Connor Gallic launches Kai Calls after training voice AI agent on Ken Rents bookings through Awesome Backyard Parties demo

Connor Gallic, an AI systems architect and New Jersey native, today announced the launch of Kai Calls, a voice AI platform for small businesses, following a six-month pilot program built to help his father’s tent rental company handle customer inquiries and bookings.

The platform was developed and trained using real customer interactions from Ken Rents, a tent rental business, through the AwesomeBackyardParties website. The extended demo period allowed Gallic to refine the AI agent’s ability to answer product questions, provide quotes and schedule bookings without human intervention.

“I built this for my dad first,” said Connor Gallic, founder of Kai Calls. “Small businesses like his don’t have staff sitting by the phone. They’re out delivering tents, setting up events, running the actual business. Every missed call is a missed booking. I wanted to solve that problem for him, and realized it’s the same problem every service business has.”

The voice AI agent handles inbound calls 24/7, qualifying leads, answering frequently asked questions about inventory and pricing, and scheduling consultations or bookings. For Ken Rents, the system manages inquiries about tent sizes, availability for specific dates and pricing—conversations that previously required the owner to stop work and answer the phone.

From Family Business to Platform

Gallic, who relocated to Puerto Rico after getting married and currently works at KOMPETE, developed Kai Calls as part of a broader focus on AI automation for service businesses.

“The six months on AwesomeBackyardParties taught us everything,” Gallic said. “What questions people actually ask. Where the AI gets confused. How to hand off to a human when needed. You can’t build that in a lab. You have to run it on real calls with real customers who don’t care that they’re talking to AI—they just want their question answered.”

The voice AI market is projected to grow from $3.14 billion to $47.5 billion by 2034, with 80% of businesses planning to integrate voice AI into customer service by 2026. For small businesses competing against larger companies with dedicated call centers, voice AI offers a way to match response times without hiring additional staff.
