New Brush Clearing Company Launches in New England, Bringing Sustainable Forestry Mulching Services to Homeowners and Land Owners
Jay’s Brush Clearing, a newly launched forestry mulching company, is now open for business and ready to help New England property owners reclaim overgrown land using a sustainable, soil-preserving approach. Founded by Jason, a former Civil & Environmental Engineer with over 20 years of agricultural and heavy machinery experience, the company brings professional-grade forestry mulching services directly to homeowners, campgrounds, and land managers who have been battling invasive species, scrub brush, and encroaching saplings with no good solution — until now.
Forestry mulching is a land-clearing method that uses a skid steer — a compact, track-driven machine — fitted with a specialized mulching head attachment. The head features a heavy-duty rotating drum lined with hardened steel teeth capable of grinding through brush, invasive species, and trees up to eight inches in diameter, reducing everything to fine mulch in a single pass. Unlike traditional land clearing, which involves felling trees, bulldozing, and hauling debris, forestry mulching leaves all organic material on the ground as a natural mulch layer. That mulch suppresses weeds, retains moisture, and feeds the soil — so owners can seed grass immediately after clearing and expect green, growing results the following spring.
“I grew up on a farm and spent 20-plus years working outdoors with machinery,” said Jason, founder of Jay’s Brush Clearing. “When I started learning about forestry mulching technology, I got really excited. I said, this is my chance to get back to working with machines and working with my hands — and to do it in a way that’s better for the land. My background is engineering, farming and sustainability, and this technology fits perfectly with my vision of sustainable land management.”
For Jason, this new business is also deeply personal. He grew up on a family farm in Southern Maine featuring an idyllic, rolling cow pasture along the banks of the Great Works River — a wide-open piece of land where he fished and spent much of his childhood. Over the past two decades, with no animals grazing, that pasture slowly disappeared under a tangle of pine saplings, invasive shrubs, and dense brush. Restoring it is one of his first orders of business. “My brother took over the farm and I live right next to it,” Jason explained. “I’m really excited to be able to bring that land back — for my family and for anyone else who’s been watching their property grow over.”
Jay’s Brush Clearing primarily serves homeowners with one to several acres of overgrown land, though the service is equally well-suited for campgrounds requiring seasonal trail clearing, utility corridors that need vegetation management, and any property owner dealing with invasive species that have gotten out of hand. The emotional impact of the work often surprises clients. Jason recounted a story from a colleague in the industry: “A homeowner had inherited some land from a parent, and when the clearing was done, they started crying. They said, ‘I haven’t had this view since I was a kid.’ A lot of people don’t realize how powerful it can be, creating a view, bringing back a view, or suddenly having an extra acre of open space where you could put a pool, a structure, or even solar panels.”
Demand for the service peaks in late spring and early summer, when leaves fill out and property owners notice just how much of their land has been lost to overgrowth. Jason officially launched the business on January 1st and has been spending the first months of the year preparing equipment and building his client base for the busy season ahead. Education is a key part of his marketing mission — many property owners simply don’t know forestry mulching exists as an option. “A lot of people just don’t know this is available to them,” he said. “My job is to put it out there: hey, you have overgrown land, here’s a solution you may not have heard of.”
In year one, Jason plans to operate as a one-man crew, building hands-on expertise and delivering results he’s proud to stand behind. By year two, he intends to bring on at least one employee and potentially a second machine. His five-year vision is a fleet of three to five mulching units operating across the region. For property owners wondering what to do with overgrown land, his advice is straightforward: skip the bulldozer. “With mulching, everything stays in place,” he said. “You mulch it down, throw some grass seed, and the mulch itself helps the grass grow. Eighteen months later, you’ve got a beautiful field — and all you have to do is mow it a couple times a year to keep it that way.”
