To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China–Greece Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, CHN ENERGY Guohua Energy Investment Europe Renewable Energy Co., Ltd. (CEERE) held its 2026 Corporate Open Day event in Alexandroupolis, Greece, on the morning of May 27 local time.

Under the theme “Mutual Understanding and Shared Affinity, Mutual Benefit and Win-Win Cooperation,” the event featured three major segments: a photo exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of the China–Greece Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, a special seminar on joint wildfire prevention, control and coordinated response, and the release of CEERE’s Sustainable Development Report. The event showcased the company’s ongoing efforts to cultivate the Greek renewable energy market, advance sustainable development, and deepen exchange between Chinese and Greek civilisations, while also serving as a meaningful tribute to the 20th anniversary of the China–Greece Comprehensive Strategic Partnership through both green development and friendly cooperation.

Representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Greece, officials from local Greek governmental bodies, delegates from the fire service, civil protection, forestry authorities and other departments of the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region, as well as local residents and business partners, gathered at the event to participate in this Corporate Open Day Event centred on green development and cultural exchange.

Opening Remarks Highlight Friendship and Shared Commitment

In her address, Ms. Li Ying, Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Greece, warmly affirmed CEERE as a model of China–Greece energy and green industry cooperation. She praised the company for actively fulfilling its social responsibilities while deepening its engagement in the Greek market — particularly for its contributions to local wildfire prevention and for bringing the people of both countries closer together. This, she noted, demonstrates the commitment of Chinese enterprises to integrate into local development and fulfil their corporate social responsibilities. She expressed hope that the Open Day event would serve as a bridge for continuously enriching the contemporary significance of the China–Greece Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and jointly ushering in a new chapter of China–Greece friendly cooperation, and extended her warm wishes for the enduring and flourishing friendship between the two nations.

In recognition of the company’s support for local forest fire prevention efforts, General Aristeidis Katirtzidis of the Greek Fire Service presented CEERE with the award for “Outstanding Contribution” at the event. In his remarks, General Katirtzidis expressed gratitude to CEERE for the meticulous organisation of the event, conveyed his admiration for Chinese civilisation, and spoke of his amazement at the rapid pace of technological development in China. He emphasised that the prevention and control of forest fires is a significant global challenge, and that the priority must always be placed on prevention.

Photo Exhibition Revisits Two Decades of Friendship and Opens a New Chapter in Mutual Learning Between Civilizations

Initiated by the Chinese Embassy in Greece and co-organised by Xinhua News Agency and CEERE, the photo exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of the China–Greece Comprehensive Strategic Partnership vividly showcased the fruitful achievements made by the two countries over the past two decades in political mutual trust, economic and trade cooperation, energy development, and cultural exchange through a rich collection of valuable historical photographs, project documentation materials, and photographs capturing the human side of cross-cultural engagement. The exhibition comprehensively showcased the continued deepening of the China–Greece Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the enduring vitality of the traditional friendship between the two countries. As a key component of the exhibition’s energy section, CHN ENERGY Guohua Energy Investment Co., Ltd. systematically reviewed its development journey and achievements in Greece through a series of documentary photographs, highlighting the company’s positive contributions to China–Greece strategic cooperation in areas such as technological innovation, ecological protection, workplace safety, and community co-development through its renewable energy projects.

Guests at the event paused to view the valuable historical images, exchanged reflections on the exhibition, revisited memorable stories of China–Greece friendship, and gained a comprehensive understanding of the achievements of bilateral cooperation. They also engaged in in-depth discussions on pathways for mutual learning between civilisations and new opportunities for industrial cooperation. The venue was filled with an atmosphere of openness, inclusiveness, and mutual cooperation. The photo exhibition not only served as a heartfelt reflection on the profound friendship between China and Greece, but also expressed a shared vision for the two countries to move forward together toward an even brighter future.

Joint Wildfire Prevention, Control and Coordinated Response to Build a Strong Green Safety Barrier

With the regional challenges of frequent wildfires and severe fire prevention and control demands during Greece’s summer season in mind, CEERE organized a special seminar on joint wildfire prevention, control and coordinated response together with Greek fire departments and other renewable energy enterprises operating in the area, as part of the Corporate Open Day event. The seminar provided a platform for communication and exchange between local government bodies and enterprises on wildfire prevention, while further strengthening consensus on coordinated fire prevention efforts among all parties involved. The seminar also represented a meaningful exploration by Chinese-funded renewable energy enterprises in Greece in the field of joint prevention, control and coordinated response, offering a positive reference for overseas Belt and Road projects in fulfilling social responsibilities and integrating deeply into local emergency response systems.

At the seminar, a Greek Fire Service instructor delivered a systematic overview of the fire safety risk profile of wind farms, along with the complete prevention and control process chain, encompassing meteorological monitoring, firefighting equipment, fire hazard operations, fire surveillance, emergency preparedness, incident response, and coordinated handling. It was emphasised that personnel safety must always take priority, and that all enterprises should jointly coordinate with the fire service, share mapping data, conduct joint drills, and maintain continuous communication.

A representative of the Greek fire authorities stated, “The joint fire prevention training carried out by government departments and enterprises provided valuable experience for local forest fire prevention efforts.” While enhancing the precision of fire risk warnings and the efficiency of emergency response, all parties also reached consensus on sharing emergency resources and agreed to strictly follow the unified command and coordination of the Greek fire authorities during wildfire response operations, thereby establishing an effective collaborative mechanism for coordinated fire prevention. The special training further strengthened communication and coordinated prevention awareness between government and enterprise participants, consolidated joint wildfire prevention efforts, and built a strong safety barrier for the local forest ecosystem, public safety, and the stable operation of energy facilities.

Cultivating the Clean Energy Market and Fulfilling Sustainable Development Commitments

During the event, CEERE officially released its 2026 Sustainable Development Report, comprehensively presenting the company’s achievements and commitments in areas including green operations, workplace safety, ecological protection, community development, and cross-cultural exchange. The report vividly demonstrated the company’s commitment to cultivating the European market, advancing ESG development principles, and fulfilling corporate social responsibilities. At the event venue, Stavros Thomaidis, a local resident representative from Alexandroupolis, Greece, shared his personal story of growing up alongside the “white windmills”. From community co-development and local employment empowerment to ecological protection and cultural exchange, these stories vividly illustrated the genuine friendship and mutual understanding between Chinese enterprises and local communities, resonating strongly with the attending guests.

As a representative Chinese enterprise in Greece’s renewable energy sector, the Thrace Wind Power Project developed by CHN ENERGY Guohua Energy Investment Co., Ltd. has a total installed capacity of 78.2 MW and an annual power generation capacity of approximately 160 million kWh, sufficient to meet the electricity needs of around 30,000 households each year. The project can replace fossil fuel-based power generation and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 200,000 tonnes annually, providing strong support for Greece’s carbon neutrality goals and energy mix optimisation. Since entering the Greek market, the company has remained committed to localized development by organizing corporate open day events, proactively releasing sustainable development reports, and regularly carrying out public welfare initiatives including community co-development, youth exchange, and emergency response cooperation, becoming a shining example of China–Greece energy cooperation and cultural exchange.
